“The characteristics of the Deities should be discussed, as well as the characteristics of the Shalagrama-shila. You should also discuss visiting the Deities in the temple and touring holy places like Vrindavana, Mathura and Dvaraka."
"So my request is that you continue your devotional service very faithfully and rigidly, then in this life you will be able to see Krsna face to face. That is a fact. So you follow the advice, as given by Rupa Gosvami, utsahat. The first thing is enthusiasm, that "I must see Krsna." You are seeing Krsna. The Deity of Krsna and Krsna is not different. But even personally we can see. Simply we have to continue the enthusiasm."
"Krishna is ready to talk with you. He has come. He has descended in
archa-murti to talk with you, to be visible by you.
Now you make yourself ready and fit to talk with Krishna. Then He will
exchange conversation. This is possible."
Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad. Bombay, December 4, 1974.
Sri Gopalaji then smiled and said, “My dear brahmana, just listen to Me. I shall walk behind you, and in this way I shall go with you.”
PURPORT
The conversation between Lord Sri Krishna and the brahmana is proof
that the Lord in His archa-murti, or form made of material elements, is
not material, for those elements, although separated from the Lord, are
also a part of the Lord’s energy, as stated in the Bhagavad-gita. Because
the elements are the Lord’s own energy and because there is no difference
between the energy and the energetic, the Lord can appear through any element.
Just as the sun can act through the sunshine and thus distribute its heat
and light, so Krishna, by His inconceivable power, can appear in His original
spiritual form in any material element, including stone, wood, paint, gold,
silver and jewels, because the material elements are all His energy. The
shastras warn, archye vishnau sila-dhih . . . naraki sah: one should never
think of the archa-murti, the Deity within the temple, as stone, wood or
any other material element. Because of his advanced devotional position,
the younger brahmana knew that although the Deity of Gopala appeared to
be stone, He was not stone. He was the son of Nanda Maharaja, Vrajendra-nandana
Himself. As such, the Deity could act exactly as the Lord does in His original
form as Krishna. Lord Krishna was talking to the young brahmana just to
test his knowledge about the archa-vigraha. In other words, those who have
understood the science of Krishna—Krishna’s name, form, qualities and so
forth—can also talk with the Deity. To an ordinary person, however, the
Deity will appear to be made of stone, wood or some other material. In
the higher sense, since all material elements ultimately emanate from the
supreme spiritual entity, nothing is really material. Being omnipotent,
omnipresent and omniscient, Krishna can deal with His devotee in any form
without difficulty. By the mercy of the Lord, the devotee knows perfectly
well about the Lord’s dealings. Indeed, he can talk face to face with the
Lord. (Sré Chaitanya-charitämrita,
Madhya-lilä 5.97)
"As Lord Krishna appears in the sound of His holy name, so also He appears within the archä-avatära, His incarnation as the Deity worshiped in the temple. The central focus of every ISKCON temple around the world is the worship of Krishna's Deity form as represented in stone, metal, wood or as painted pictures. Through ceremonial services (püjä) conducted according to Vedic tradition, the devotees fulfill the Lord's injunction in Bg. 9.27: Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform do that, O son of Kunti, as an offering to Me. This püjä purifies the minds and senses of the devotees and connects them to Krishna in an attitude of love. Mäyävädis decry service to the Deity as idol worship. They argue that God is not present within the Deity, because He is everywhere. But if He is everywhere, then why is He not within the Deity as well? Moisture is also everywhere, even within the air. But when one needs a drink of water, he cannot get it from the air. He must drink the water from where water tangibly avails itself to be drunk: from a faucet, a well, or a clear stream. Similarly, although God is everywhere, it is in His Deity form that He makes Himself tangibly available for worship." (Iskcon Communications Journal #9.1 Sept 2001, Glossary)
"These three, the name, the deity form and the original form of the
Lord, are all one.
No distinction should be made between them, for all three are of transcendental,
spiritual substance." (Caitanya Caritamrita Madhya-lila17.131)
Srila Prabhupada about worshiping different forms of the Lord
“Especially for the householder devotees, the path of Deity worship is strongly recommended. As far as possible, every householder, by the direction of the spiritual master, must install the Deity of Vishnu, forms like Radh -Krishna, Laksmi-Narayana or Sita-Rama especially, or ANY OTHER FORM OF THE LORD, LIKE NRISIMHA, Varaha, Gaura-Nitai, Matsya, Kurma, Salagrama-Sila and many other forms of Vishnu, like Trivikrama, Keshava, Acyuta, Vasudeva, Narayana and Damodara, as recommended in the Vaishnava-tantras or Puranas, and one's family should worship strictly following the directions and regulations of archana-vidhi. Any member of the family who is above twelve years of age should be initiated by a bona fide spiritual master, and all the members of the household should be engaged in the daily service of the Lord, beginning from morning (4 a.m.) till night (10 p.m.) by performing mangala-aratrika, nirañjana, archana, puja , kirtana, sringara, bhoga-vaikali, sandhya-aratrika, patha, bhoga (at night), sayana-aratrika, etc. Engagement in such worship of the Deity, under the direction of a bona fide spiritual master, will greatly help the householders to purify their very existence and make rapid progress in spiritual knowledge.” Srimad Bhagavatam 2:3:22 Purport
Srila Prabhupada "The salagrama-sila should be worshiped with tulasi
where a sufficient quantity of tulasi leaves are available. Worship of
salagrama-sila should be introduced in all ISKCON temples. Salagrama-sila
is the form of the Lord’s mercy. To worship the Deity with the sixty-four
items mentioned may be a difficult job, but the Lord has become so small
that anyone in any temple can carefully handle Deity worship simply by
performing the same activities with the salagrama-sila." (Caitanya Caritamrita
Madhya-lila 24.336)

All-mineral beautiful “paint” to decorate the Lord
By Urmila Devi Dasi Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! I got some pure mineral colored powder that is sold as women’s make-up. It only contains minerals. Of course, we know that the Lord and His associates love to decorate themselves with the natural minerals of the forest. One mixes a small quantity of the powder with a very small amount of water, and uses a brush. Some of the colors are full of “sparkle” and “glitter” and are exceptionally beautiful. They can be easily removed with water and a cloth. If you are removing the mineral paint from a rough-surfaced sila, you might want to first massage the Lord with a small amount of fragrant oil. I use the inside of the lid to mix the powder with water. Whatever I don’t use that day I allow to dry on the inside of the lid (which it does quickly) and then a tiny drop or two of water another day is enough. Unlike colored tilaka, it needs very little water, mixes quickly and easily, is not messy or “goopy”, goes on smoothly, allows for extremely fine work, and a little goes a long way. And who knows what toxic ingredients may be in that colored tilaka! It is also a good substitute, in a dry form, for modern so-called kumkum or sindur which is nowadays made from toxic chemicals. Many pujaris have used sindur as a blush for Radharani, but these minerals would be far superior. I’m attaching a photo of a Govardhana sila decorated with these mineral paints. The company ships worldwide, and their prices are reasonable. One can also get small sizes which are easy to travel with. Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide. Iron Oxides, Manganese , Ultramarines. website: http://www.everydayminerals.com I would suggest the eye colors, blushes and face colors. Your servant, Urmila devi dasi

Welcome to the World of Premium Quality Temple Incense http://www.incensetemple.com also HERE We thank your visiting our site, as we welcome you to the world of incensetemple.com. Our incense sticks come to you from the holy mountains of the Indian Himalayas, following our own traditional style of making incense as done by the great Rishis (seers) and yogic formulas which were used in ancient times. Incense sticks have played an important role in many of the world's greatest religion, and our high quality incense sticks are well known to have been used for ritual works and service which attracts pleasing and positive energies. Our Incense sticks come from the tree resin (tree root) which is black in color as well as other natural ingredients such as flowers, seeds, roots, sandal dust, devdar dust, resin and oils of many great herbs that are naturally aromatic. The ancient peoples associated their gods with the natural environment and natural fragrances which were believed to drive away inauspiciousness and demons and encourage the positive properties of god to appear on earth through their wonderful natural purifying smells. Studies tell us that a smoker can pollute the atmosphere which affects 4-5 people's health around them, whereas burning of pure incense can bring family happiness, prosperity, aide good health, and give protection against all ill effects and evils. In this way it helps to create good and ambient environment around the users. Our pure incense immediately creates a spiritual atmosphere through its healing, soothing and uplifting atmosphere as it surcharges the ether with positive energy (fire, earth) dispersing subtle negative influences. Thus it is good for meditation and inner peace. Incense is not just for pleasant smells, but a way to refresh your heart and mind. Pure incense is for bringing back positive memories or invoking good thoughts and feelings for the inner self. The use of incense sticks is widely described in ancient Sanskrit scriptures in dispelling of evils and pleasing the gods, and saintly persons. Pure incense sticks also has the properties to reduce the many harmful effect of dangerous perfume use in lesser quality incense sticks widely available in the market place. The use of inferior materials in the modern incense sticks selling in the market you will be surprised to know the facts of what poor quality incense actually does for those involved in worshiping, Meditation or for personal use. In other words that inferior quality incense is an offense to offer to God et al. Some Shocking facts of Modern Incense In the modern world it has become custom for incense manufacturers to change their approach in the of making incense, they wanted more variety, stronger potency and also to lower the cost of incense, expecting this will make their product more popular, without caring for the decline in the standard of the incense. Many of you will be very much shocked to hear that the incense you are using is basically made of Coal Powder, Groundnut Cells, washing soda ash, Foam paste, Grease, Rubber solution for binding purpose, melted Old Tyres and inner-Tubes, used Mobil oils for lubrication, and so on. Some of the manufactures also use Albumen Powder, which is essentially the dry blood of dead animals. I must repeat it is dry blood of dead animals which is the bi-product of when poor animals are slaughtered, they take that blood and store it in low temperatures and low pressure so that the drying of this Albumen occurs, which is then used for binding the incense stick and incense cones. These persons rely on the fact that the Albumen binding has great strength, so much so that it is also used in ply board manufacturing, in other words it is called a powerful glue. Those inferior incense sticks have many more harmful chemicals which are used as a base for different fragrance, which produce harmful Carbon Dioxide gas which when burnt pollutes the air and atmosphere, and can severely damage your health. Not many manufacturers use the original the high quality natural material nowadays, as we do. So what we are offering to God ?, surely we want that everything we offer or use be of the very best quality availably, and at a reasonable price. We have brought that tradition of high quality incense sticks at an affordable price, for the pleasure and benefit of one and all. For more information contact Mohit Kumar

We have received several requests from devotees
asking if anyone has Shalagrams that they cannot for one reason or another
worship, and if they feel they may like to put Them in another's care.
We now have seemed to found a niche in the "relocation care-giving environment".
If anyone is in that situation, or needs help in that way please contact
us using the above e-mail address, yhs, =>:-)
Shalagrama Shila chakram yo dadyad daanam uttaman
"Giving in charity of a Shalagram Shila is the best of all charities. Any person who has given this charity has achieved the result of performing all auspicious activities, and has given charity of the whole earthly planet, decorated with forest, jungles, and mountains." |
If you know of other devotees who worship Shilas please
send their contact details,
or if you'd like to invite them to participate also,
that would be appreciated.
Spread the word........Thanx =>:-)
Note:
We also understand that some may not wish to, and prefer to keep their
Ishthadeva private, and we respect that also. This form of Deity worship
is very personal we know, and it is never to be thought by anyone that
we are cheaply plastering the Lord "on the Internet". Rather we are making
this facility for like minded devotees to share and give in loving exchange
that which is most dear to them/us. We honour the verse from shastra that
states, "One should hide one's ishtha-deva, one should hide one's guru,
one should hide one's mantra, and one should hide one's japa-mala." (Hari-bhakti-vilasa,
verse 2.147, Srila Sanatan Goswami quotes Sammohana-tantra) gopayed devatam
istam gopayed gurum atmanah / gopayec ca nijam mantram gopayen nija-malikam
//
Thus EVEN within the realm of this Mayik world, and especially on the Internet where it is easier to find the forms of brazen naked women, we offer this sanctuary of spiritual "Eye candy", like an oasis amid a dry desert that cooks and burns the very life from any soft hearted soul.
