Simple Living and High Thinking

Devotees of the Hare Krishna movement have been living and practising our faith amid the multitude of alternative life-stylers in the Bay of Plenty for some years now. The devotees appear sometimes to be just like many of the "country cockies" working out in the fields or building their own homes from adobe - mud brick or timber. Wearing wide brimmed hats to keep off the sun, and gum-boots to protect from the rain and mud, working all day, long hours and up since the crack of dawn. Then what is the difference?
.
The difference is that the devotees of Lord Krishna begin their day after bathing with meditation upon the Holy Names of God - Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. Whether it be in their own home or collectively ( a couple of families together ) the first thing is to worship Guru and God and give thanks. The rest of the day displays the thanks by working hard according to one's nature in the service of the Lord.

The above picture shows the practical application of the four classes of men.

According to one's nature one can and does naturally render service to the Lord. As shown above some people are: teachers, priests - brahmins, astrologers, counsellors, intellectuals, academics, writers, charity workers, etc; some are administrative by nature, work with the law, the courts, local or national government, martially spirited, etc; others they work in banking, accounting, the farms and fields, with the cows - cow protection, or do business, trading various commodities, etc; while others work with their hands (timber, carpentry, arts and crafts), Artist(s) or render valuable assisting service (medical & herbalist, healing - Reiki, etc.,) to these three classes of devotees by unskilled or menial labour, as mentioned in the 18th chapter of Bhagavad Gita.

.
Whatever we do, we do it as a service to the Lord, Sri Krishna (Bhagavad Gita As It Is 9:27.)
